Overhauling The Girls Library

Over the last few months I have taken some time to overhaul and update the girls library. Sailor is aging out of pre-school books and Emme is growing her collection of chapter books. I have also made a special effort to ensure we have a library that is filled with both fiction and non-fiction and one that supports diversity and inclusion. It’s so important to Nick and I that the heroes and heroines in the pages we flip through daily are representative of all races and cultures.

There are SO many beautiful books and stories in the marketplace that are important and meaningful additions to a child’s library. And I’m excited to share the ones that are in heavy rotation in our home!

We have read this book so many times the pages are starting to soften! It’s beautifully illustrated and its message is even more empowering; by working together you can move mountains. It’s a story of persistence, resilience, and making your dreams a reality.

I can not recommend this book series from Vashti Harrison enough! It is incredibly empowering and educational and I promise it will inspire your little ones as much as it will you!

Oh how I love this book. It’s a beautiful story about inclusion and kindness. It is so simple and the message is so important. We are all special and should welcome one another with open arms!

The Day You Begin

By Jacqueline Woodson

Illustrated by Rafael López

This story reminds us that we can all feel like outsiders sometimes and being different is beautiful. When we take the steps to share our uniqueness it is often met with open arms! It also struck curiosity in our girls. We talked about how acknowledging that we are different is ok and that we should lean into learning and understanding the beauty in what makes each of us special!

Mary Had a Little Glam

By Tammi Sauer, Vanessa Brantley-Newton (Illustrator)

Mary is a total fan favorite in our house! This book is so fun and is so catchy as it’s set to the tune of ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’. It sits on Sailor’s bedside table and speaks to all of her fashionista dreams. Mary is a delightful character and her confidence and creativity is sure to spark your child’s imagination!
