Ready, Set, Refresh!

I don’t know about you, but I have never spent this much time at home. And for someone who enormously values the way our most intimate spaces look and feel, I have been left with the need to switch things up and refresh more than ever.

With our build in Los Angeles underway, we have been quarantining at our home Florida. Over the years we have spent all of our holidays and extended family time here. I have updated the decor as time has passed and marveled at the quality of the furniture we invested in. This home takes a beating. A leather ottoman, that has served as a kid-friendly coffee table also serves as a stage for performances, trampoline, and the site of countless spills, has aged beautifully. And the art is even more meaningful a decade in. This is truly a family home. A place we have celebrated so much and a sanctuary in some of our most uncertain times.

A decade in, there are still things that I would love to change and update. But never having been here for an extended period of time it always fell into the category of ‘maybe one day when we get around to it’ or ‘why invest the money when we aren’t here very often’. And I truly always come back to the idea that there are so many small things you can do to create the space of your dreams even when you need to work with what you’ve got.

Here’s are a few of the things we have done this past month to bring new and refreshing energy to our home!

Pillow Refresh!

This is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to transform a space. And with so many major retailers offering beautiful and affordable options, you can always feel like you are staying on trend. You can indulge in seasonal themes this way too!

I personally look for small Etsy shops or Instagram to find new artisans. I absolutely adore my new Jolie Marche pillows that I just purchased to cozy up a guest room.

THP Tip! Invest in high quality inserts and look for pillow covers when you are looking for a refresh! Covers tend to be less expensive than a stuffed pillow and they are easy to fold and store when you want to switch things up a bit!

Paint!

This might fall into the weekend warrior category, but you can’t deny how new paint on the walls can totally transform a space. Even just taking the time to touch up the little smudges and stains can bring your walls back to life!

THP TIP: Add a box of magic erasers to that Amazon cart. At least once a week I take a trip around the house and buff out all the little spots that I see.

Pressure Wash!

This is an easy and verrrrry satisfying way to really feel like you are getting a fresh start. Pressure Washers are affordable and available everywhere. You can also rent them at local hardware stores. Take some time to wash away the dirt and grime from patios, outdoor furniture, and windows and doors!

THP TIP: Add a quick wash of your front door to your maintenance chores every few months. It’s so easy to overlook, but giving your front porch a little TLC brings instant curb appeal!

Over the next few months I will continue to share the little projects we are taking on that are making such a huge difference in the way things feel around the house. Are you feeling the need to switch things up? If so, how are you breathing new life into these quarantine times?

Xx,

Jo
