Nick and I both chose careers that can be roller coasters at times. And from the very beginning we have alway prioritized our family being together. That means we are often miles away from our family and friends. Thankfully our nearest and dearest are always willing to make trips to visit. One of the biggest priorities I have is making sure our home has the coziest and most comfortable spaces for our guests.
I have taken cues from some of our favorite hotels we have stayed in and curated a little list of ‘necessities’ based on things that have made my travels easier or things I wish were at my finger tips when I’m away from the comforts of home. I always make sure to offer small sized versions of my favorite products, basic first aid items, and unmentionables that might be needed when an unexpected ‘situation’ might pop up.
I also love throwing in some personalized goodies as well! Something that makes your guests feel like their visit is meaningful to you and you were thinking of them before their arrival. For instance, my dad is obsessed with Tate’s Chocolate Chip Cookies. So I make sure to have a package or two for any late night snacking he might want to do.
In all of our guest rooms I also make it a point to display things like wifi passwords, provide information on how to access the cable system in our home, or any pertinent information that might be needed in a pinch. Lately, when the grandparents visit, I have Emme and Sailor make a small little piece of art on simple card stock welcoming them and then frame it on their bedside table. They eat it up! Ha!
I’m always so grateful when our loved ones make the trip to spend time with us. Making them feel at home, special, and appreciated is so important to me. I want them to leave feeling all of that. It’s always the tiny gestures that mean the most to me and putting together these small touches are an easy way to show your guests you're thinking of them!
