How To Make Birdseed Ornaments

I’m always looking for quick and easy projects that add a little creativity to our day. We call them Sunday crafts in our house because that always seems to be the day we are enjoying a little down time at home. These birdseed ornaments were so fun! And the girls (and me) get so tickled when we see birds enjoying their treats.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 c water

  • 1 pack of gelatin

  • 1 cup of birdseed

  • Cookie Cutter of Choice

  • Twine

  • Optional Ribbon

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a sauce pan bring water to a boil and add gelatin.

  2. Stir until dissolved.

  3. Allow to cool for about a minute.

  4. Add birdseed (may need additional birdseed to get the right consistency. It should be pliable and not falling apart).

  5. Lightly grease, then fill your cookie cutter with the birdseed mixture.

  6. Use small wooden dowel to make a hole for the twine.

  7. Allow the cookie cutters to set for at least 2-3 hours. I like to pop them in the refrigerator to make sure it’s really solid.

  8. Once the ornaments are set, you can pop them out of their mold and tie the twine for hanging. I like to make my loops generous because it’s easier to hang on tree branches.

If you want to make your ornaments extra festive, you can tie a small bow on the twine!

Hang on your favorite tree and watch the birds enjoy!
