Jo’s Favorite and Easy to Care for Houseplant Guide!

Sometimes the smallest additions to your space can completely transform the feeling of a room. One of my all-time favorite go-to tips for achieving this change is simple… A houseplant (both literally and emotionally) breathes life into a room and gives you that total feeling of transformation.

Lucky for us, there are so many beautiful options and possibilities, but keeping it alive and well is usually the reason I hear most for people not incorporating live plants into their homes. So, I have compiled a list of plants that I love and are also relatively easy to take care of!

 Let’s start with my favorite…FERNS!

Asparagus Fern

Maiden Fern

Both these ferns are relatively easy to take care of. The Asparagus prefers indirect light, and the Maiden Fern loves a more humid environment. It's great for a bathroom or if you live in a drier climate, but a little spray bottle and mist works well too. Both enjoy moist soil but be sure not to overwater! My Asparagus Fern that you see above only requires me to water every five days or so. But keep an eye out and make sure the soil doesn’t dry out!

Pancake Plant

Also, known as the ‘money plant’, this beauty is incredibly easy to care for. It likes indirect light and to be watered when the soil dries out. Talk about low maintenance and gorgeous!

Devil’s Ivy

I love Devil’s Ivy. This ‘wandering’ plant is so beautiful because as it grows, its beautiful stems naturally drape on its surroundings. They also only need watering when the soil dries out, and every couple of months appreciate a little fertilization mixed with its watering. Some suggest you trim the ‘wandering’ stems to keep them hearty and dense, but you can be the judge of that!

Succulents

If you want to add some life and need a bulletproof solution, succulents are the way to go! Buy a beautiful vessel, go to your local nursery and get creative. I start my planting by using a succulent specific soil. This soil will help with proper drainage and ensure your succulents won’t be sitting in a soggy mess. In addition, this soil is easy to find and inexpensive. After filling your vessel with soil, arrange your succulent(s) of choice, add a top layer of soil, give it a nice little drink, and sit back and enjoy this low-maintenance piece of art!

 Artificial

Ok, ok, let’s say you’re still daunted but want some life. There is nothing wrong (and there are so many great options) with a beautiful artificial plant! I have my Clover by Jo Faux Eucalyptus in two places in my house! They are obviously full proof and still add that lively touch!

No matter what you decide, I promise adding a little life to your space will help bring such a transformation! So, try it, and tag me so I can see how you incorporate some ‘living decor’ into your spaces!
